The Poet – Part One

This is taken from a short story that I wrote back in 2004. It is the story of a poet who fights evil through words. I have had much criticism, both good and bad but have decided not to change it. This is the first time that I have published it pubically so I hope you like it and of course your comments are welcomed.

The Poet meets a traveller and tells his story.

“My rhymes tell of love and laughter
Virgin love from Cupid’s bow
Love that lasts forever after
Love that comes and love that goes
My words give life to those who hunger
For the one to bring the kiss
That they live and dream and wish for
The kiss that those without love miss
My rhymes tell of children playing
Innocently as they do
Until the world with her desires
Corrupt the child and turn them cruel
For children are all God’s creatures
Sadly none are born with wings
So on earth they must remain
Until the Satan takes them in
My rhymes warn of all these dangers
My pen flows with only truth
Of the past and of the future
Rhymes of fresh and rotten fruit
To reach my rhymes
You must have traveled
Just a little to comprehend
For I have seen the world’s four corners
And have journeyed to its end
From the ancient seven wonders
That existed long ago
To the mounts of the great Olympus
That myths and legends
Speak boldly so
I have seen and I have written
Of the loves and all the wars
Of the land when summers ended
Where iced rivers flow no more
Seas of blue surrounding islands
Beaches filled with bended palms
When the sea was more than angry
And forgot how to be calm
My rhymes tell of everyday
Trials and tribulations of my fellow man
Told in words with no maudlin
True to life on solid ground
Even though some flights of fancy
Have raised me to the clouds above
Where I could eavesdrop on the eagle
Whilst writing rhymes of turtledoves
And too my rhymes speak of courage
Under fire when all is lost
Giving tips on overcoming
Working for the underdog
I write of colours
Furious rainbows
Beauty that is almost impossible to describe
Gates of heaven
And walking steps
That lead to Eden and paradise
Time and space
No space for time
Ever rushing to and fro
I write of wanting to reach somewhere
Or no particular place to go
I write in rhyme and sometimes rhythm
For our lives are rhythm filled
We watch and wait whilst tapping feet
Our lives revolve upon treadmills
So music often fills my rhyme
And describes the way I feel
Whilst placing modern quill to parchment
I am bound to get my thrill
From melodic sounds and tones
Soothing the most savage breasts
My rhymes can pacify
Like lullabies put hearts to rest
And intriguing they are too
Drawing strangers to my side
So that they may gain a taste
And share in this world of mine
You see my dear sir
Grey you were
Before you sat upon this baked chair
Look at your hands
They are grey no more
There is colour in your hair
Your shirt is now a shade of blue
And matches sky as do your eyes
The sun still shines the sky’s not grey
So ask me why this is the way
As if by magic or hypnotism
You sit aghast at the feat
With mouth agape
Yet no sound comes
From behind your now white teeth
Your whitened jeans sit on beige shoes
A miracle I’m afraid not
You asked me
Of what I wrote about
I explained told you the lot
Except the part that is my favourite
You see my rhymes are full of life
And all they touch are given life too
That’s what makes me want to write
My rhymes fill darkened skies with starlight
Open flowers to full bloom
Rhymes I write can take you to the
Brighter side of a lonely moon
Whatever you wish to find in your life
My rhymes give but also take
Give hope and courage for the future
Take away the hurt and pain
So stranger now you know the secret
It was not you who sought me out
My rhymes spied you and heard your troubles
Of a life of pain and doubt
They have called you to relieve you
Of the guilt and make you clean
Live the words of rhyme that you hear
Live the words fulfill your dreams.”

And with that the stranger rose
Looked one more time at his freshened self
Then at me smiled
This time sweetly
Oblivious to all else
I watched him wander this time no meander
Off on his continued quest
Hoping he would heed the message
Knowing he was newly blessed
But my words were not really secret
The reason why they worked so well
Is because I am a poet
With a story I must tell.

Let Me Love You with My Words

Have I said how much you lift me
Elevate me to new highs
Have I said when you are with me
How I cannot disguise
Just wanting to be with you
Laying by your side
To fill the void I put to paper
The very thoughts within my mind

So let me love you with my words
Let my words replace my touch
So that with each word spoken
Comes a quiver to your heart
Let me tell of how I miss you
More than the day before
Let me love you with my words
And with each one love you some more

Have I said how your smile raises
My hopes when we are together
Have I said of how your touch
Sends a tingle to my soul
I dream of you beside me
In a moment of too much pleasure
As we both taste the desire
That we both wish to unfold

Let me love you with my words
As taboo as they may be
Close your eyes and sense the moment
Let the moment set you free
Imagine lips to skin so soft
And very gently placed
The warmth of one another
In a passionate embrace

Have I said of how your voice
Is as a songbird in the spring
Have I yet to say that I believe
That you must hide your wings
For when I think of you
I see an angel in my mind
Gentle and soft and full of grace
And so very kind

So let me love you with my words
And take away your pain
Let them sooth your weary day
And make you whole again
If I cannot be with you
I stand undeterred
Instead I give you my sweet song
And love you with my words

Liar

Shame on you
You’re at it again
You try your best
So tell me just when
You’re gonna give up this foolishness
And just quit
It used to work
But do you honestly expect
Us to believe in the things you say
Dreaming up your schemes at night
So that during the day
You can launch all your fibs
On an unsuspecting public
With your lips juiced up
Dripping with it all
Sometimes small white ones
Some ten feet tall
It’s a wonder how you manage
To get them all in your mouth
The things you say
Are totally without doubt
The biggest crap that anyone can bare
Don’t you know that by now
Your rhymes fall on deaf ears
No you can’t do
Delusional
Stop spilling the chat
Learn to keep your mouth shut
Talking the he said she said
Pure fabrication
Inventing yourself
Without justification
What did the world do to you
Did you get dissed in a pass life
Pray tell
What’s the real reason for your lies
And oh no
Here comes another one
Don’t waste your breathe
I’ve already got some

There yes I said it
Yes you are
You’re a liar and then some
The biggest one by far
Telling stories about people
How can that be fun
The friends that you have
Don’t know what you’re thinking
They sit around with you all day
Smoking and drinking
But you’re a smelt it dealt it
With an added twist
You smell the truth then twist it around
So that it sounds the lick
Thank God there’s no court room
Perjury beyond compare
You would need no prompting
If the judge said “Don’t you dare”
You’d be up on the stand
Talking ‘bout Tom Dick and Harry
And all the things you claim
They did last night with Sally
Talking ‘bout how you brought a house
With white picket fence
With earnings from your record deal
And brought a brand new Benz
You’d be making up stories
The types of tales you would spin
Would be really thick on plot
But on truth
Wafer thin
And in case you may think
That I’m like those other brothas
I’m brotha undercover
And you’ve just been discovered

Falsifying fabricating fictionalising
On your brother
You’re not prejudiced
You’d even lie about
Your sister and your mother
Telling us that your girl
Was a famous singer
Which girl
We’d go to raves
But you’d never ever bring her
So now here’s the coo
This is how I’m gonna drop it
All this lying that you’re doing
Please bro
You have to stop it

I turn a blind eye
I don’t personally mind
I like to see the look
Of the people that I meet
When they say that they’ve just left you
After hearing all your stories
But I absolutely
Positively
Refuse to take the bullshit
When you give me all the glory

Saying I did this
And I said that
Well let me tell you something
Enough is enough
I’ll put my foot in your rump
And then we’ll see
Just how much fun
You get from one lie
You make it seem easy
Well soon I’ll make you see
When happens when you spread rumours
Especially ‘bout me
Think about the consequence
I’m going to tell you so
You’re the kind of guy
That we all watch
On Jerry Springer’s show
The only way that you will
Ever make it on TV
Is if you don’t stop your lying
Carry on and you’ll see
But let me refresh your memory
In case it slipped your mind
Tell one more lie about me
I’ll stick my foot in your behind
Liar!

Sunshine Rain

It’s something that we can’t explain
Through joy and pain
We are sunshine rain
And I’ll never fall in love again
She’s my best friend
Until the very end

If anybody wants to know
I’m telling this to you
The heart and soul is true
No need to fall in love again
Give our fortune and fame
For the sunshine rain

Love isn’t what it seems
Like flowing through a stream
Sometimes just like a dream
Until you feel sunbeams

So if anybody wants to know
I’m telling this to you
The heart and soul stays true
With each day it passes through
I don’t need to fall in love again
Give my fortune and fame
For the pleasure and the pain
That is my sunshine rain

One More Day

Wish today could last
Not forever but just for one more day
Then I could say
All that I had to say
But time is the master
And without happy ever afters
All I can do
Is hope that you know
All that I have been through
Whilst missing you
And wishing that
Our paths had never crossed
So that the hurt could stop
And at the same time
Wanting to be with you
Like we used to
Just like we are today
As we sit here and reminisce
Try our best to forgive
I long for the moment to last
Maybe not forever
That’s asking for too much
But then one more day
Would not be enough
