Old Friend

Someone spoke your name today
Said that you were ok
They said you were doing fine
Having a real good time
And they went on to tell me that
You were happy and on track
So although I haven’t heard from you
I’m pleased to know that you pulled through

When I thought of you today
Just like I seem to often do
I think of all the funny things
That together we would do
And the promises we made
To stay forever as best friends
But I guess as time moves by
We started to make alibis

Now I hear you’re up on high
And soaring through the clear blue skies
I’m just a figment of your past
So distant and fading very fast
Still I’d like to hope one day
